Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated Right of Way Agent to assist with acquiring property rights and permits for a variety of public infrastructure and development projects throughout the State of Iowa. This role plays a key part in coordinating with property owners, preparing real estate documents, and supporting land acquisition efforts that enable important public improvements. Projects may include:

  • Wind energy developments
  • Road and bridge improvements
  • Electric transmission and distribution lines
  • Sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and water utilities
  • Recreational trails
  • School and park developments
  • Urban renewal projects
  • Pipelines and drainage channels
  • Airport expansions
  • Water detention basins and sewage lagoon sites

This is a great opportunity for someone interested in real estate, land development, infrastructure, or public works. We provide comprehensive in-house training, so prior right-of-way experience is not required.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct title research to determine ownership and identify property encumbrances.
  • Prepare documentation for the acquisition of easements, permits, fee title, and other property rights.
  • Negotiate with property owners for the acquisition of land rights necessary for project construction.
  • Negotiate settlements for property damage claims related to construction activities.
  • Prepare and maintain project files including correspondence, agreements, and landowner contact records.
  • Deliver and organize hard copy and digital project documentation for internal use and acquiring authorities.
  • Coordinate with internal staff and external parties to obtain necessary documents and due diligence materials.
  • Maintain accurate records of easements and real estate documents.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously using strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred but not required)
  • Equivalent related work experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to analyze documents and solve problems effectively
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs

Salary: $41,600-$83,200 annual salary
